MMM Design Group was recently selected to renovate approximately 114,719 SF of existing classroom and faculty office space in the Burnette Building. Services will include schematic design, preliminary design, preparation of construction documents, bidding documents, and construction administration.

The building is in good condition, although no major renovations and/or upgrades have been performed over the last thirty-three years. It was constructed in 1972 of concrete masonry units, metal studs, and precast architectural panels on a structural six-inch concrete slab on grade. The primary roof is a single ply membrane roof and the secondary roof over the stairwells is batten seam metal roof. Structural deficiencies include cracking throughout the concrete masonry units, building settlement/cracking and cracks/spalling throughout the perimeter sidewalks. Additional concerns are deteriorated caulking throughout the exterior of the building and around all windows, worn/aged exterior metal doors, rusted/dilapidated handrails, and lead-based paint. The original base building systems have outlasted their estimated useful life expectancy. These systems include roofing, electrical distribution, emergency back-up power, mechanical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and lighting.

In addition, over the last thirty-three years, only minor aesthetic improvements have been performed to include painting and carpeting of miscellaneous classrooms and the commons area in an attempt to maintain a reasonable level of distinction. The current state of the building lacks the image necessary to portray a professional and state-of-the-art institution.
