MMM
Design Group provided design-build services for the construction of a new
Social Security Administration Building in the city of Roanoke, Virginia.
The new three-story facility includes 71,000 SF of office space
and provides 337 parking spaces for building tenants. Each floor is anticipated
to host one tenant, with SSA offices located on the first floor for access
to the general public. One of the goals of the new facility is to achieve
a Silver LEED rating in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
This project was undertaken to meet the design excellence objectives of the Federal Government. The new facility for SSA represented a pivotal step in the further development of business expansion in downtown Roanoke.
In keeping with the owner’s user requirements, timeline, and budget, MMM simplified the basic plan and structure while enhancing the design in specific areas that would create a positive impact on the public and tenant employees. The new facility was developed to maximize function and flexibility for efficiency and design opportunities. MMM worked closely with GSA representatives and user groups by conducting design charrettes that incorporated creative ideas with design alternatives while adhering to anticipated funds for this project.
