KEMPSVILLE PRESSURE REDUCING STATION
Hampton Roads Sanitation District
Virginia Beach, Virginia

This project consisted of the design of a 30-MGD pressure reducing pump station located in the Bellamy Woods area of Virginia Beach. Design services included a site access study, preliminary engineering report, and preparation of construction documents. Elements of the pump station design included 200HP vertical pumps, 36-inch piping headers, variable speed controls, emergency generator, sitework, landscaping, and a regional system upgrade for higher capacity service. Contract administration services included bid assistance, shop drawing review, periodic inspection, station start-up, and as-built document preparation.
The station was sited in the area of high-priced homes. MMM designed this pump station façade to resemble the adjacent houses. Special architectural treatment was required to design an exterior façade that presented a pleasant residential appearance while the interior construction remained industrial. No cost increase resulted from the design approach.
