MMM provided full design services for the renovation of VMI’s principal
dining facility. The “mess hall” is a two-story stucco and
stone structure of 41,200 GSF. The existing building will be expanded by
13,800 GSF and be retrofitted for a new, state-of-the-art dining facility.
To accommodate the Institute’s
new program requirements and new HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems
are needed to replace the building’s
aging infrastructure. Hazardous materials investigation and remediation services
were also anticipated within the mechanical systems of the building. The
scope of services also called for window restoration and greater energy efficiency.
Lighting and power distribution needed upgrading to meet increased demands
for electrical service, telecommunications, and newly programmed kitchen
equipment and serving areas.
