As part of a multidiscipline term contract with the Virginia Community
College System, MMM provided a master plan update for the Virginia
Beach campus of TCC. Increased student enrollment at this campus has
negatively affected class size, academic schedules, and available programs.
TCC needed to alleviate a significant classroom deficit, while projecting
emergent enrollment space needs if it was to achieve SCHEV-approved
guidelines.
MMM’s master plan update preserved the campus as a “walking” campus, while vehicular traffic and parking was kept to the perimeter. Within the campus, the buildings, green spaces, and ponds would remain clearly defined with visual and physical interconnections between the academic landscape. Original buildings were considered for mechanical retrofitting. ADA upgrades and information telecommunications technology. A pedestrian mall between the Advanced Technology Center and the Higher Education Center would allow for future building sites beyond 2008.
As of August 2003, MMM is continuing to refine and develop the TCC Master
Plan for the Virginia Beach campus.
