For Group ‘E’, MMM prepared traffic projections
and capacity analyses for the proposed widening of this major arterial.
Numerous alternate
alignments were developed and analyzed and the results were presented at
several public meetings. Preliminary engineering and final construction
documents were prepared for the recommended improvements, which consisted
of the addition of the 5th lane for median turning movements, sidewalks,
extensive storm drainage systems, and coordination with local utilities.
Need for widening was focused on safety and capacity considerations.
For the Group ‘F’ portion of the project, MMM conducted corridor studies, performed preliminary engineering, and prepared construction documents for 4,300 LF of four-lane divided highway. The project utilized an urban, curb, and gutter section with sidewalks and included three at-grade intersections, the 250-foot bridge structure over a railroad, pavement markings, signage, traffic signalization plans, right-of-way acquisition, and maintenance of traffic plans.
Both projects were completed on an accelerated “fast-track” schedule.
