MMM Design Group provided transportation engineering services for location
study and design of a 0.6 mile access roadway connecting Chincoteague
Island with the Virginia mainland. The project reviewed several alternate
alignments over the Black Narrows and Chincoteague Channels, and also
examined potential construction and infrastructure issues that would
affect the Town of Chincoteague. Extensive citizen information participation
was also a key feature of this project.
Final design (in metric units) has been completed. Construction began in 2007 and is expected to be completed in three years.
