BURNETTE HALL
J. Sargeant Reynolds
Richmond, Virginia

MMM Design Group is renovating approximately 114,719 SF of existing classroom and faculty office space as well as provide new entries for the Burnette Hall academic building on the Parham Road campus of J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. MMM is tasked with designing state-of-the-art classroom and laboratory space to meet the technology needs of JSRCC’s present and future students. The scope of services includes schematic design, preliminary design, preparation of construction documents, bidding documents, and construction administration.
Our exterior plaza design replaces the original plaza with a new paver design, seating, lighting, and planting scheme. The new design focuses on a more social and interactive courtyard that incorporates seating, shade, central art work sculpture, and an improved interconnection between Burnette Hall and the campus pedestrian network.
New entries on both central sides leading to the main commons atriums shifts the entry to the center in between the stair wells. The original design has them off to each side in two remote and narrow indefensible spaces. The new entries provide heated vestibule and transition area along with a central well recognized entry presence on the ground floor. The pushed out entry provides for visual distinction and an entry icon with a balcony/patio that is accessible from the second floor over the vestibule area.
