MMM Design Group is providing design services for improvements to the Old Hampton Community Center and historic Grant Circle Park. Located near the historic downtown district, the project seeks to create a contemporary sense of place for this urban neighborhood while anticipating the future needs of this diverse community.

The scope of work for the newly designed community center included the creation of a practice location for groups within and outside of the immediate community, a neighborhood fitness facility, child development center, and community gathering area for groups of all ages. Universal design features were integrated into the design that include hand rails, hallway and bathroom accessibilty for wheelchairs, lightweight doors, and assistive/resistive water currents in the community center aquatic pool for physical therapy and rehabilitation. MMM partnered with Water Technologies, Inc. for the aquatic center design on this project.

A new zero depth entry leisure pool is planned for the community center. The new pool will be designed for swimming, fitness, wellness, rehabilitation programs and recreation. The facility will be multi-generational and multi-purpose, but is also planned to be low maintenance.

Key efforts of the project included a needs assessment of the local community followed by the necessary programming to meet those needs in the revitalized community center and the park’s public amenities.
