PUMP STATION NOS. 48, 51, AND 52
City of Norfolk
Norfolk, Virginia

MMM Design Group was commissioned by the City of Norfolk to evaluate and to make recommendations for repairs, upgrades, or replacement to three sewer pump stations built in the 1960s.

The evaluation and study phase of the project included review of existing service areas and estimation of new flow requirements, inspection and testing of existing pump equipment, inspection of existing building structure, electrical upgrades, and review of code compliance.

Based on MMM evaluations, Pump Stations Nos. 51 and 52 were identified for rehabilitation, while Pump Station No. 48 was recommended for replacement.

Rehabilitation design for Nos. 51 and 52 included replacement of existing pumping equipment, improvements to ventilation of wet well and structure, and structural/electrical rehabilitation.

Design of the replacement pump station for No. 48 increased capacity flow to 400 GPM for the new facility. Telemetry coordination was also required to ensure proper calibration with the City system.

The recent addition of construction and bidding services in 2002 to the original 1995 contract required the update of plans and specifications to meet current building codes and standards.
