ROANOKE RIVER GREENWAY TRAIL CORRIDOR FEASIBILITY STUDY
City of Roanoke
Roanoke, Virginia

MMM Design Group was selected by the City of Roanoke to design this Greenway Trail Corridor Feasibility Study. Both the Roanoke River and Tinker Creek Greenway corridors are two primary regional linear parks that traverse through many jurisdictions in the Commonwealth of Virginia, including Roanoke. The Roanoke River Greenway is a project that is current under development with its more eastern route terminus currently in the vicinity of the Western Virginia Water Authority’s wastewater treatment plant at Bennington and 13th Streets in Roanoke, Virginia.

The Tinker Creek linear park (greenway) is a regional north-south corridor, with its initial phase in place, which lies between Wells Avenue and Kenwood Street in Roanoke, Virginia. The Tinker Creek linear park has a southern terminus near the fulcrum of the Town of Vinton's western border and the north shoreline of the Roanoke River. The scope of this project looked at the various linear park corridor options that would tie these two linear park environs together to include a minimum 10’ wide multi-use recreational trail. MMM also examined the necessary type, size, and location attributes necessary for the development of a bicycle/pedestrian bridge to span the Roanoke River to formally connect these two greenway trails.

This greenway project is currently in development of design and construction documents in compliance with existing transportation enhancement funds earmarked for the Roanoke River Trail.

The project has been scheduled for two phases, the first consistied of the planning/feasibility study component, the second consists of construction document development.
