MMM performed a detailed structural inspection, provided construction
contract documents with related cost estimates for the repairs, performed
a structure selection study to evaluate “rehabilitation” versus “total
replacement,” and performed the bridge replacement design for
this 37-foot-wide 1810-foot-long concrete and steel bridge. The
bridge spans the Newport News Shipyard as well as numerous railroads
and was generally in poor condition. The total bridge replacement included
two 13-foot lanes and two 4 ½-foot sidewalks.
