The MHI Ocean Marine Yacht Center is an 11-acre mega-yacht repair facility
capable of repairing the largest class of ocean-going pleasure craft.
The facility includes a 1,250-ton state-of-the-art, computer-driven,
syncro-lift vessel transfer rail system which serves nine vessel repair
stations, two of which are fully enclosed. The latter were enclosed
within a 140 x 240 x 80 foot temperature-humidity controlled building
that is designed for weather-sensitive repairs and painting.
The yacht center also has an 80-ton travel-lift crane for smaller craft up to 80 feet in length. The facility contains a high-rise 320-boat dry rack storage building, a wood-framed, pile-supported dockmaster’s building, and a two-story steel-framed administrative office building. The facility is on the Elizabeth River behind a pile-supported, framed concrete slab bulkhead of 1,800 LF, with a 122-slip marina that includes surface parking for 374 vehicles.
